The first season may not be over yet, but the Tomo-chan Blu-ray has already been announced. And as a treat for fans, the Tomo-chan Is a Girl! Volume 1 Blu-ray release will feature special NSFW merch.
This not-safe-for-work merch was revealed via the show’s official Twitter account, and it features the anime’s main cast in revealing attire.
Four of these illustrations are already available, though only one will be given for every purchase of the Volume 1 Blu-ray.
Tomo-chan Is a Girl! – Winter 2023’s Premier Rom-Com
Even before the anime’s premiere in early January, Tomo-chan already has a massive fanbase, as the original manga was a fan-favorite of users on Reddit’s r/manga. In fact, the r/manga front page features Carol Olston on the banner.
Its popularity is quite surprising given that it’s a four-panel manga. For comparison, most other popular romantic comedy manga are serialized in a conventional 18-20-page format.
Its funny gags, compelling romance, and loveable cast of characters helped a lot in making it a popular title, even for overseas manga readers.
Thanks to the popularity of the original manga series, the Tomo-chan anime became a hit as it drove lots of discussions online.
As more episodes get released, the anime continues to be one of this season’s most popular titles.
Based on AnimeKarmaList, Reddit discussion threads for each Tomo-chan episode are among the top 5 in terms of upvotes.
While it’s not a runaway hit to the level of Kaguya-sama or My Dress-Up Darling, it’s still comfortably the most popular school rom-com of the season.

Tomo-chan Is a Girl! NSFW Blu-ray Merch
While it has only been a few weeks since the anime’s premiere, the first Blu-ray volume has already been released.
This Blu-ray release features the anime’s first two episodes along with a priority application ticket for an upcoming live event in May.
It may only have two episodes, but it is a must-have for dedicated series fans, as it features lots of freebies, including clear files and NSFW merch.
These illustrations will be given for every purchase in specific stores.
For instance, those who buy the volume at Animate will get a cloth poster featuring Tomo in a red backless dress and Junichiro in a suit.
Meanwhile, buyers of the volume on Amazon will get the revealing cloth poster featuring Tomo and Carol.
As for the other two, the Misuzu and Tomo tapestry will be up for grabs on Sofmap Animega, while those who purchase the Blu-ray on Gamers will get a tapestry with the sunflower illustration.
