Tomo-chan Is a Girl! is an anime that’s based on the popular 4-panel manga series of the same name.

While its popularity may not be at the level of the biggest shonen titles, it still has a large and dedicated fanbase online.

For instance, it is considered the favorite manga of many users on Reddit’s r/manga.

In fact, the subreddit’s banner features Carol Olston as she acts as a sort of unofficial character of sorts for the community.

So, why is Carol so popular? Without spoiling the manga, Carol is a cute yet airheaded character that speaks her mind and takes everything literally.

This personality of hers is an entertaining contrast to Misuzu, Tomo’s friend who has a devious and twisted personality.

Carol is also a funny contrast to Tomo herself who is a huge tomboy who gets easily flustered, especially in the presence of her childhood friend and crush, Junichiro.

While Carol does not appear yet in the first storyline of the episode, she finally makes her debut in the second half of the episode that’s entitled The School's Idol.

In this part, Carol is introduced, and she mistakenly thinks that Tomo likes class rep Kousuke Misaki. Misuzu takes note of this and tells Carol to ask Junichiro for help. Thus, hilarity ensues.

Carol may be cute as cotton candy, but she’s a major airhead as shown in the series’ events.

Despite her unusual personality, there’s a lot to love about her, as noted by many fans who watched the episode.

Aside from loving her chaotic antics, fans also praised voice actress Sally Amaki for her voice acting skills, especially as she voices Carol in both the Japanese and English dubbed versions.

You can see more of Carol Olston in the next Tomo-chan Is a Girl! episode which airs next week on Crunchyroll.
