Thunderbolts Movie Will Reportedly Bring Back Black Widow Character

Recently, we learned that Marvel Studios is officially working on a Thunderbolts movie which is expected to be the MCU's version of The Suicide Squad as it will feature villains from the past films. While we don't know yet which exact members will be part of the MCU's take on the team, a rumor has now emerged regarding their first recruit.

As reported by ScreenGeek, according to Marvel scooper Daniel Richtman, Black Widow actress Olga Kurylenko will reprise the role of Taskmaster in Thunderbolts. However, this information has not been reported yet by the major trades nor confirmed by Marvel although Richtman has reported a lot of accurate scoops in the past so it is likely to be true.

Assuming that Kurylenko is indeed going to return as Taskmaster in Thunderbolts, she is more or less the first recruit in the MCU's version of the team. In a previous report from Deadline regarding the project, Taskmaster was one of the characters that are being considered to be part of the team and it looks like that might actually be the case now.

Taskmaster made her MCU debut in Black Widow where she was initially introduced as a villain until it was revealed in the third act that she is actually Antonia Dreykov, General Dreykov's daughter and also presumed to be dead prior as she was seemingly killed by Natasha Romanoff during her days as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. The character was revealed to be being controlled by his father and she was eventually freed in the end.

It is not surprising to hear that Taskmaster will return in the film given the nature of the character. However, it is curious to see how they will recruit her to the team since she turned into the good side by the end of Black Widow.

Taskmaster's potential role in Thunderbolts could also be Marvel's way to redeem the character since her appearance in Black Widow was criticized for being underwhelming and perhaps the upcoming film may turn her into a more badass character or closer to the characterization in the comics. In the end, it's just exciting to know that we might see her in the film.
