Marvel's Thunderbolts Movie Confirmed to Be In the Works

For the past few years, there have been rumors and speculations that Marvel Studios is working on a film centering on the Thunderbolts team. We haven't heard any official confirmation from the studio yet, but fans have expressed their interest and excitement about the potential project. Now, it looks like the film is actually happening as they have found a director to oversee it.

As Deadline reports, a Thunderbolts movie is officially in the works at Marvel Studios and they have tapped Jake Schreier (Paper Towns) to direct the film and Eric Pearson (Black Widow) to write the screenplay. The studio has been talking with several potential directors for the project in recent weeks with Schreier ultimately getting the job after his presentation blew away the executives.

The exact plot details are under wraps, but it will revolve around a group of villains who were sent by the government on a mission. There is no information about which exact characters will be part of the team, but Marvel has approached certain actors to free their schedule when they shoot for summer next year.

Some of the characters that might potentially appear in the film are the Winter Soldier, Baron Zemo, Yelena Belova, Taskmaster, the Abomination, US Agent, and Ghost. General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross could also appear since he assembled the team in the comics and it was named after him although its portrayer William Hurt passed away earlier this year.

It is exciting to hear that Marvel is now working on a Thunderbolts movie as it gives us an opportunity to see again some of our favorite villainous characters from past films and TV shows. The idea also sounds like it's going to be the MCU version of the Suicide Squad. If the film won't recast Ross, there is also a possibility that Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will form the team instead and act as the team's Amanda Waller. It is curious to see which beloved MCU characters will officially end up becoming part of the team.
