Netflix has already dropped the official release date of The Witcher Season 3. But compared to the previous seasons, this one will be split into two parts, making fans wonder why.

The Witcher Season 3 will be the last time fans see Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, as he will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth next season. So, does it have something to do with Netflix’s decision to split the new season into two halves?

The Interesting The Witcher Season 3

The streaming service took a lot of creative liberties when it did the second season.

Geralt, Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) are finally together and are ready to protect each other, as half the Continent is now hunting Ciri.

The previous season also introduced the Wild Hunt and ended with a major cliffhanger of the big reveal— The White Flame being Ciri’s alleged dead father.

Hence, The Witcher Season 3 has a lot of revelations to make, though it may not be the reason why it will be split.

A Marketing Trick

The Witcher Season 3 has the same number of episodes as the previous ones. However, fans have to wait about over a month to see the full eight episodes.

Though Netflix or the series creator, Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich, hasn’t given any reason why the third season will be divided, Screenrant noted it might be a marketing trick.

By dividing the new season into two parts, the streaming giant would give the show “a mid-season spike by creating a second premiere episode and a definitive finale.”

This will help the series to boost up after a bad second season and the prequel series, Blood Origin, reception.

A Nod to Henry Cavill’s Exit

The Witcher Season 3 will serve as Cavill’s final season. Hence, the split may be a nod to his exit and Hemsworth’s coming.

Netflix may take advantage of the hiatus and promote the new episodes to get a bigger audience.

Hissrich once told Collider that dividing the third season into two parts wasn’t meant to happen, but he didn’t deny the possibility after seeing it a norm across all streamers.
