The Winds of Winter: George R.R. Martin Refuses to Reveal How A Song of Ice and Fire Will End

There is little doubt that the world of Game of Thrones is still moving forward, thanks to the upcoming prequel House of the Dragon. However, the wait for the next chapter of A Song of Ice and Fire continues to be a long one. At this point, fans are eager to read The Winds of Winter to find out what happened to Jon Snow after the Night's Watch turned against him. Unfortunately, George R.R. Martin is unwilling to share any solid updates, stating that he doesn't know how or when the book series will end.

George R.R. Martin recently spoke to Vanity Fair where he addressed his health issues as more people grow concerned about whether he will be able to complete A Song of Ice and Fire. Not surprisingly, the author assured fans that he has recuperated since he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and it even helped him get some work done on The Winds of Winter.

"Oddly enough, although I hate having COVID here, the two years of enforced isolation enabled me to get a lot more writing done, because I was doing a lot less traveling and public appearances and speeches and all of that stuff," Martin said.

He further stated that he needs to continue writing but confessed that he has no idea how it will all end.

"I’m making progress," Martin said. "But I’ve given up on any hope of predicting the end. Every time I do, I don’t make it, and everybody gets mad at me, and there’s no sense. It’ll be done when it’s done. Hopefully, COVID won’t kill me so that we won’t have that issue."

At this point, it sounds like everyone, including George R.R. Martin himself, will be in for a surprise when the final book A Dream of Spring is finally released. In the meantime, we continue to wait for The Winds of Winter.

The Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon premieres on HBO on August 21, 2022.
