The Tunnel to Summer may have flown under the radar compared to other big anime films this year, but it has gotten acclaim from critics and fans, especially from those who saw it in theaters. For those who didn’t though, HIDIVE announced that it will stream The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes soon.

HIDIVE confirmed the anime film’s January release date on its official website and X (formerly Twitter) account.

2023 saw lots of big anime film releases, including the new Makoto Shinkai movie Suzume and Hayao Miyazaki’s long-awaited project, The Boy and the Heron.

Even big shonen franchises got movie releases such as Demon Slayer’s Swordsmith Village Arc Episode 1, not to mention The First Slam Dunk, which was also released to critical acclaim.

The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes is another 2023 anime film that hasn’t gotten as much attention from more casual anime fans.

On the flip side, it got great reviews along with the Paul Grimault Award at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

This film is a sci-fi romance anime based on a seinen light novel of the same name by Mei Hachimoku. What makes the film a noteworthy one for anime fans is that it’s made by the CLAP, the studio behind Pompo: The Cinéphile.

Thankfully, Tunnel to Summer wasn’t relegated to being a film festival exclusive as Sentai Filmworks and HIDIVE distributed the film in US cinemas.

For those who missed its theatrical run, HIDIVE will stream the movie in just a few weeks.

HIDIVE revealed that The Tunnel to Summer will be streamed on its platform on January 2, 2024. This means anime fans will only need to wait two weeks until the film is finally available to stream.

The film’s streaming release will also feature an English dub option. The dub cast features Gabriel Regojo (Kou Yamori in Call of the Night) as Kaoru Touno and Patricia Duran (Freya in DanMachi) as Anzu Hanashiro.

Of course, the film’s original Japanese version will also be available with English subtitles.

Ahead of the film’s release, HIDIVE will bring some more shows this month. These include modern classics like Shirobako, which is part of P.A. Works’ Working series, as well as the cult hit Kino’s Journey.
