The Sandman might be all about Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, but he isn't the only character who has captured the hearts of viewers around the world. For instance, Death only appeared in one episode but people were instantly smitten with Dream's sister. So what is it about Kirby Howell-Baptiste's performance that was truly captivating? Neil Gaiman shared his thoughts on why Death is so adorable in the Netflix series.
Death only appeared in the episode The Sound of Her Wings where she took Dream with her as she collected the souls of those who are about to meet their end. Although it sounds scary on paper, the character is surprisingly tender and likeable and downright adorable.
But what is it about Death that makes her so likeable? Neil Gaiman offered an explanation for the character's innate charm (via Wired).
"Death is so adorable in The Sandman because I wanted to create the kind of Death that I would like to meet when my life is over," he said. "And I thought I would like a Death who is practical, a Death who is sensible, and a Death who is, above all, kind."
It's a fitting description and one that truly explains why we couldn't get enough of Death. With that in mind, we're hoping that we will get to see more of Kirby Howell-Baptiste's character in the future.
