The Rings of Power Season 2 Hits Another Snag; Filming Under Fire For Potentially Harming Wildlife

The filming of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 began in October 2022, and as of current, the second season has yet again hit another snag in the process.

The relocation from New Zealand filming locations to the UK has not been without a few issues on set, including animal exploitation and an on-set fire starting in early April.

Now, Mirror reports that the locals in Berkshire are concerned that The Rings of Power Season 2 production could potentially harm wildlife and inflict irreversible damage in Swinley Forest.

The forest, owned by King Charles III, has had many sets built upon for Season 2 preparation, which also includes constructing a castle.

A Bracknell Forest Society rep, Gill Cheetham, spoke out by saying: “Local environmental groups are disappointed that damage to the fragile ecosystem is being allowed.”

The Rings of Power Season 2’s production could potentially harm the natural habitat of bees and ants, causing more locals apart from the Bracknell Forest Society to grow worrisome.

However, The Crown Estate reassured they are securing the habitats and species’ locations, ensuring they will remain unharmed until production is over.

While it remains unclear how much damage The Rings of Power Season 2’s production may cause to the environment, Amazon Prime has yet to speak in regards to the issue at hand.

This is not the first time for the series to have been involved with controversy. Previously, a horse has died on the set while filming despite having no initial health issues.

This certainly alarmed PETA and was heavily criticized, urging The Rings of Power Season 2 to use CGI horses in future production.

As of now, Amazon Prime and The Rings of Power have yet to respond to their callouts.

The Rings of Power Season 2 has no official release date yet, but is expected to premiere on Amazon Prime sometime in 2024.
