The Quintessential Quintuplets’ anime special just ended its theatrical run in Japan, but for those who missed it, here’s some good news. It was announced just recently that The Quintessential Quintuplets anime special will be released this September.
This upcoming release refers to the special’s TV broadcast in Japan. Though instead of broadcasting the entire episode in one go, the special will be divided into two episodes.
With the TV release confirmed, it’s only a matter of time before the anime special gets streamed outside Japan, giving international fans more content featuring the Nakano siblings.
The Quintessential Quintuplets Continues Despite the Ending
The Quintessential Quintuplets' story technically ended with the anime movie that was released last year. After all, that film finally revealed which of the five sisters Fuutarou marries in the end.
Even though the series is technically over (both the anime and the manga), Quintuplets continued to be popular enough to get a new anime special.
This new anime special is kind of like an OVA, and it covers some parts of the manga’s story that were skipped in the 2022 movie.
Something like this also happened with Horimiya which got a new anime this season, despite the show already having a proper conclusion.
Instead of simply getting a TV release, The Quintessential Quintuplets side story got a theatrical release in Japan on July 14.
What’s interesting is that, at just 48 minutes long, the special isn’t exactly movie-length.
What’s also unexpected about the special is that Bibury Animation Studios did not return to make it.
Instead, the special is animated by studio Shaft of Fate/Extra: Last Encore and Monogatari series fame.

The Quintessential Quintuplets Anime Special Finally Gets September Release
To celebrate the series, the anime special was initially released in Japanese cinemas for three weeks. Given this, the special’s theatrical run has finally concluded.
For those who missed it, the special won’t take much longer to get a TV broadcast as it’s confirmed to air beginning September 2.
Specifically, the special’s first half will air on September 2 on TBS, with the second half airing on September 9. Then, the special will be broadcast in full on September 10 via BS11.
There’s no word yet on a streaming release date for The Quintessential Quintuplets special.
It’s expected that the OVA will be released on Crunchyroll soon after its Japanese TV release.
