The Marvels is not just a sequel to 2019's Captain Marvel, but it will also serve as a follow-up to some of the MCU TV shows where the characters in the film were also featured.

There have been some concerns from some people that watching the film might require homework to see the other connected MCU projects first to understand the context of the story and it can be overwhelming for the casual audience who can't keep up with its multiple releases.

Fortunately, it looks like casual audiences don't need to worry anymore as it looks like the sequel is aimed to be accessible for both die-hard fans and newcomers in the franchise.

Speaking with Collider, The Marvels executive producer Mary Livanos addressed the concerns surrounding the film's accessibility to the general audience given how connected it is to multiple MCU projects.

First, she opened up about how the sequel can be satisfying for long-time MCU fans who have been watching all the previous films and TV shows that it was connected to.

"I think what's great about this movie is if you are a huge fan of the comics, if you're a huge fan of the MCU, if you've seen the incredible Ms. Marvel show, if you've seen WandaVision, if you saw the first Captain Marvel movie, there is so much to follow, so many threads to pick up with this film that really pay off," Livanos said.

The executive producer went on to say that the film is still going to be accessible for newcomers because of the character dynamics that the audience might like.

Livanos continued, "But at the end of the day, if you're less familiar with the storytelling thus far, this is about three people really meeting for the first time and coming together."

"Just like any movie, you meet new characters and get to know them and get caught up to speed, and this movie does it with extreme dynamism, so I'm excited for people to enjoy it whether they're huge fans or new fans."

As someone who has seen the film, I can also back up Livanos' claims in the interview as I also thought that the sequel was accessible to both long-time fans and newcomers who may not have seen the other MCU projects that it is connected to.

Without spoiling the exact details, they found a creative way to recap the events of the first film and the TV shows without being a heavy exposition dump and give a clear idea to the audience about the three main characters' respective journeys before the film.

While it feels daunting that watching the new film may require some homework, fortunately, you won't be left behind when you see it without watching the other projects. Obviously, it would still be great to watch them to make the experience extra fun but you don't need to feel any pressure.

At the end of the day, what matters is that the film was able to tell a decent story and arc for the main characters while still being an entertaining superhero movie that will satisfy your viewing experience.

The Marvels is set to arrive in theaters this Friday, November 10.
