The Marvels Becomes MCU's Most Disliked Youtube Trailer; Fans Defend Brie Larson

The Marvels is months away from now, but it looks like fans are not giving it a chance as early as now because, 24 hours after it was released, The Marvels’ trailer became the most disliked Marvel Cinematic Universe trailer on Youtube.

After 24 hours, the trailer immediately gathered 200,000 dislikes, and its current standing now stands at 634K thumbs down, surpassing its 490K likes. Most fans believe that this is rooted in the misogynistic perceptions of other viewers.

When Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel was released in 2019, the actress and the film itself received unreasonable hate as many believed the MCU didn't need a female-led superhero movie. And now that the Room star is set to reprise her role with other female members, the haters are on it again.

Even if Larson is not the only superhero star that is receiving hate right now, most fans believe that she is the most undeserving of the negativity being thrown at her since she started her superhero career.

One fan took to Twitter to say that Larson, as well as Chris Pratt and James Gunn, don’t deserve the hate that fans have been throwing at them consistently. Another user replyingreplied: “Especially Brie. Like, the other two had seemingly legitimate reasons to be disliked (which were proven false but some people still don't know it), Brie literally just played a role in a movie.”

The Marvels’ trailer is not the first MCU trailer that showcases female characters and received unwelcoming responses when it premiered. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law's trailer garnered 554,000 dislikes last year. The only difference is that it earned 786,000 likes, surpassing the number of dislikes by over 200,000.

The only time that the hate pattern is not visible is when male-led offerings are in the picture. For instance, the Secret Invasion trailer received 19,000 dislikes against 416,000 likes, and the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer only got 5,500 dislikes against 336,000 likes.

Given the unending resentment, Marvel executive Victoria Alonso said before: “We were aware that there were people that were not ready or perhaps not welcoming of the film but it never interfered with the storyline or our vision of the film … But we hope they give us a chance and see the film before they finalize their opinions …”

The Marvels arrives in theaters on November 10.
