One of the moments in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker that caused stirring reactions from the fans is the kissing scene that happened between Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) before the latter died in the climactic fight sequence.

While some fans who have shipped the two characters throughout the years have enthusiastic responses, the majority of the fandom was baffled by the moment as they believed that it didn't make any sense at all.

Now that it's been a few years since the film's release, Ridley has finally weighed in on the controversial moment and her take may surprise you.

In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Variety), Daisy Ridley shared her take on the controversial kissing scene between her character Rey and Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

To what might be the surprise of many fans, she believed that the moment felt earned since they saw it as a symbol for saying goodbye and it was not intended as a romantic gesture.

"I felt like we all... it felt earned. What was interesting again is intentionality. My feeling in that moment was that it was a goodbye, and that felt earned," Ridley said.

"You can call a kiss a thousand things, but I felt it was a goodbye. That whole scene felt emotional and I felt I was saying goodbye to the job, too."

The actress' take on the controversial kissing scene may be surprising for fans given how polarizing the moment has been all over the years and it was one of the centerpieces of the divisive responses toward the film.

Even if there is no romantic intention behind the scene, some fans would argue that there could have been a better creative choice to symbolize the goodbye rather than a kiss, which is always seen as a romantic gesture.

Now, Ridley is eyeing her return to the Star Wars franchise as she is set to reprise the role of Rey Skywalker in the New Jedi Order movie, which is currently in the works with Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy attached to direct.
