The Kid Who Would Be King Trailer Reveals Patrick Stewart's Clever Merlin Disguise

The latest trailer for The Kid Who Would Be King has confirmed something that fans have been hoping for: Patrick Stewart is playing the ageless wizard Merlin in the fantasy flick and he has an awesome disguise.

The trailer follows Alex, a young boy who deals with the usual band of bullies at his school. However, at one point, the bullies chase him into an abandoned building where he comes across a mysterious sword stuck in a stone. Alex and his friend Bedders later realize that he may have found King Arthur's sword Excalibur. Not surprisingly, it isn't long before Merlin finds them and convinces Alex that he has been chosen to be king.

At first, Merlin doesn't seem like a particularly imposing figure considering that he appears to be a teenager working at a fast food joint. However, a quick sneeze reveals that he is actually Patrick Stewart. If anything, the trailer gives us a glimpse at what the Star Trek icon looks like in a Led Zeppelin shirt.

Stewart is not the only Hollywood heavyweight in the film. The Greatest Showman actress Rebecca Ferguson will also turn in a villainous appearance as the powerful sorceress Morgana Le Fay. In addition to that, Alex is portrayed by Louis Ashbourne Serkis who happens to be the son of Lord of the Rings star Andy Serkis. Needless to say, young Louis may have inherited his father's acting prowess and comedic timing.

The Kid Who Would Be King is directed by Attack the Block filmmaker Joe Cornish and is scheduled for release on March 1, 2019.
