None other than the actress playing Karli Morgenthau, the leader of the Flag Smashers, Erin Kellyman revealed that the anarchist group only wants unity. It is evident in their mantra that the team wanted nothing more than that as they utter the words "one world, one people" and this is confirmed by Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) when he said that the group wanted a world without borders.

In the same vein, some fans have been defending the Flag Smashers saying that their movement is a genuine one which supports the theory that the group may not truly be villains at all in the canon series of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Kellyman herself said in an interview with ComicBook.com that her character's goal is to seek unity first. Despite their illegal activities, their purpose is quite not. Kelly shared that it is not that simple and that there is a middle ground.

Kellyman said, "I feel like Karli felt like people were more unified when there was half of everybody had gone, that people came together because they needed to. And they were obviously going through a lot of trauma, so people kind of stuck together a little bit more. There was a lot more unity there, and I think that's what she's trying to get back to. I hope that people understand her."

As shown in Episode 2 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, they were called the freedom fighters who fight for the cause of those who remained while half of the universe was blipped and yet the governments care more about those who returned. As survivors, they surely experienced suffering and trauma in those five years and yet they don't receive the same help as those who have just returned.

The Blip was one of the central themes for Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as such phase would have to deal with the effects of the universal event that decimated half of the population. This has been prominent so far in WandaVision dealing with Wanda's grief following the last battle with the Mad Titan, and in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier where Sam's family was shown to have struggled financially that they have to ask for the help of the bank just so they wouldn't sell their boat.

Odds are that the Flag-Smashers are the way to direct the titular characters of Sam and Bucky to meet the real villain, Power Broker, who might've something to do with the government's newly hailed Captain America, John Walker, and some speculations even point that the Flag Smashers would be, at some point, of help to Sam and Bucky.
