Sharon Carter has been in the shadows ever since we last saw her in the Marvel Cinematic Universe which makes a lot of people wonder what happened to her between Captain America: Civil War until after the Avengers: Endgame and where she was from then on.

Emily VanCamp will be returning as Sharon Carter in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier after her last appearance in Captain America: Civil War where she was branded as an enemy of the state after helping Bucky and aiding in stealing the shield of Captain America as confirmed by Sam in Episode 2 when Bucky suggested that they would need to take the shield back.

Backtracking to her MCU history, she has first introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Steve's neighbor who turned out to be an undercover agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent 13, assigned to look out for Steve. Her lineage speaks volumes as she is the great-niece of the founder of the organization, Peggy Carter.

In the same film, when the Battle at the Triskelion happened, Sharon remained loyal to S.H.I.E.L.D. and fought HYDRA infiltrated the organization. With this, S.H.I.E.L.D. ceased to exist and Sharon joined the CIA where she was delegated to the Joint Counter Terrorist Center. In Captain America: Civil War, Steve only learned of her roots when she gave a eulogy at the funeral of Peggy.

She gave Steve the information he would need about Bucky and assisted Team Cap in retrieving their weapons following the implementation of the Sokovia accords. Because of this, she was declared as an enemy of the state, a fugitive on the run.

So, what happened to her all these years?

Aside from being a fugitive on the run, it was also confirmed in the opening scene of Avengers: Endgame that Sharon was one of those who were snapped by Thanos and has been gone for five years as her face was on the screen as among those who were blipped until the Avengers retrieved all the stones to bring back half of the universe to exist.

Although there is still some time difference between the blip and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, another clue as to where she has been and what she has been doing since then reappeared as merchandise found by The Mary Sue turned up which has her photo in black-and-white wearing the same outfit she dons in the trailer that came out during the Super Bowl.

The shirt has the words "Wanted For Breaking The Sokovia Accords. Trained by S.H.I.E.L.D., presumed dangerous. If seen, contact authorities. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO APPREHEND."

This merchandise can't just be assumed to be some misdirection, though, as it was revealed in WandaVision that the Sokovia accords remain in effect even in the post-blip. However, with that, it just raises the question as to why is Sam walking like a free man and Sharon isn't?

With Bucky, it was given an explanation that he was pardoned on the condition that he wouldn't miss a court-ordered therapy session. Were those who participated in the battle against Thanos pardoned as well? How on Earth is Sam walking around, being the famous The Falcon that even a kid called him "The Black Falcon," while Sharon is still wanted?

Guess that's for the canon series to answer. Sharon Carter appeared in the Super Bowl trailer of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier where she came from the shadows with a gun pointed at Sam and Bucky.

Sharon Carter returns in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier released every Friday at 3 AM on Disney+.
