Believe it or not, there was a time when the DC Extended Universe showed a tremendous amount of promise but when director Zack Snyder announced almost 10 years ago that he plans to bring Ben Affleck as Batman to the franchise, the backlash was insane. When Snyder later confirmed that Affleck's take on the caped crusader will draw massive inspiration from the cult classic The Dark Knight Returns, the perception of fans quickly changed and all of a sudden, DC fans were already sold on the idea.

Turns out, renowned Batman author Frank Miller wasn't feeling the idea of his works becoming a source of inspiration for big-screen projects despite laying the groundwork for a darker and grittier DC Universe. Appearing on The Beard and The Bald Movie Podcast, Miller admitted that he was skeptical at first when he learned about Snyder taking a page out of his iconic DC story.

Ultimately, the author of Batman: Year One and Daredevil's Born Again warmed up to the idea of his work getting translated into the big screen which he thought was great. He said: "I really gotta say about that a few years have gone by since all this started, okay? And at first, my reaction was to be very territorial and all that. And now I've kind of sat back and with a much deeper breath and longer view on the whole thing and all I can say is: this is great."

It's such a shame that Snyder's vision for the DCEU will not be realized but at least, he gave us the "real" cut of Justice League earlier this year which might have served as his parting gift to the avid fans of the franchise who have been supportive of him since Man of Steel. That's not to say though that I'm no longer hopeful about a potential SnyderVerse revival because frankly speaking, I still have faith that it could happen but at this point, it's not up to the fans to decide.

Meanwhile, your DCEU favorites are available for streaming on HBO Max.
