The Crown recently ended its reign on Netflix after six successful seasons that received critical praise, accolades, and impressive viewership numbers. The series concluded its story in 2005 with the wedding of Charles and Camilla and Elizabeth's planning of her funeral procession.

The popularity of the show has reignited interest from the public to learn about the history of the Royal Family and fans have been wondering whether it could continue through a prequel series that would cover the reign of Elizabeth's predecessors.

There have been rumors that Netflix is developing a prequel series that will cover the four kings who reigned during the 50 years before Elizabeth's ascension although the streamer has not confirmed it.

Now, the creator behind the series has addressed the potential prequel.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, The Crown creator Peter Morgan opened up about the possibility of doing a prequel of the hit Netflix series.

He revealed that he has no plans at the moment to revisit the series anytime soon, but he also didn't completely rule it out since he might "miss it enough" in the future.

"In the short term, I will not be writing anything set in a palace anywhere. I expect to miss it," Morgan said.

"Maybe later on, at some point in my life, I'll miss it enough, you know, to pick up the pen again. But really, at the moment, there's no plan... You never rule anything out, but in the short term -- absolutely not."

It sounds like The Crown will stay a singular six-season series for a time being since Morgan indicated here that it won't be extended into a royal drama franchise and explore other reigns in the UK monarchy.

Considering the emotional ending of the series, it is probably wise for them to not extend it in any shape or form and make it into a franchise that could go in an unfavorable direction.

All seasons of The Crown are available to stream on Netflix.
