Ghibli fans don’t just have the film’s international release to look forward to. That’s because Ghibli recently revealed the official The Boy and the Heron art book, and it will be the studio’s largest ever with over 300 pages.
Details about the new art book were shared online recently, with the book also having its official listing on Amazon Japan.
The art book isn’t the only one being made though, as there’s another compilation of the film’s storyboards.
Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron Is Getting Two Books
Hayao Miyazaki is a legendary anime director who announced his retirement in 2013. This was short-lived as Miyazaki soon went back to work on another film.
Titled The Boy and the Heron, this new anime film by Miyazaki was released in Japan back in July. Soon after, the film was premiered in film festivals across the world. The film will then be released in US cinemas this December.
In the meantime, fans were also treated to news about two books for the new movie. The first is a storyboard compilation that promises to be a must-have for creatives and animation fans.
That’s because the book will have over 600 pages and will likely feature all the storyboards of the movie.
Given that storyboards give an interesting look at an anime’s creation, this book is probably one for creatives who are interested in creating their own projects.
For more casual fans who want a coffee table-style book that they can leaf through, the upcoming art book should be a better fit.

The Boy and the Heron Art Book Will Be Ghibli’s Largest to Date
Studio Ghibli films are renowned for their impressive visuals. Thus, it’s no surprise that pretty much all the films from the studio have gotten art book releases. Most of these are big ticket items for fans.
Soon, The Boy and the Heron will also get an art book, and it promises to be the biggest yet with 336 pages.
Ghibli has yet to share a peek at what’s inside, but it’ll no doubt feature lots of character illustrations, backgrounds, and more.
Along with the artwork, the book will also feature exclusive interviews with main staff members. However, the book will only be available in Japanese initially.
The book’s Japanese version is up for pre-order now via Amazon Japan and will be released on November 1.
Given that the other Ghibli film art books get English releases, chances are that this will also be released in English sometime next year.
