Amid the coronavirus pandemic, production for movies and TV shows have halted, causing a delay and uncertainty to keeping on track with their release dates. The Batman is no exception, being one of the most-anticipated upcoming films, it took a hit as well. However, the production shutdown gives another opportunity for the director to assess the film and how it has been affected by the pandemic, including a tragic loss in one of the film's crew members.

In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, director Matt Reeves was asked if the production halt gave him time to assess where he's at with the film. "There is that thing too, when you get to push pause," he said. "I've worked on some other movies where, for various reasons, you have a shutdown—whether it's an actor gets sick and needs time to recover, or actually one time I got sick and needed time to recover."

"I do find that any time you're in the midst of something enormous where you can suddenly stop and take a little stock of where you're at," Reeves added. "That can be a creative gift as well." However, the director pointed out that the "hardest thing" has been the loss of a beloved crew member, Andrew Jack, which is something that he and the crew are still dealing with.

At the moment, it's unclear when things would go back to normal since there's no telling what kind of situation we will be in in the next few months. That said, Reeves is making the most out of it by exploring "happy accidents" and unexpected things to be found in the footage they have already filmed.

The Batman is currently set for release on June 25, 2021.
