Original Suicide Squad Director Apologizes for How Harley Quinn was Portrayed

While we're all excited for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, there are a lot of people who are sad that it's not a direct sequel to 2016's Suicide Squad, which is a fairly flawed film that a lot of movie viewers enjoyed. The original film directed by David Ayer has divided a lot of fans and it's been interesting seeing people choose sides on the two movies, even though one of them hasn't been released yet.

Interestingly enough, Ayer has sort of apologized for how he portrayed Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn in his movie, retweeting someone's angry critique and pointing out how he's trying to be better in this ever-changing world. That's a pretty cool answer from Ayer and it's nice to see the director acknowledge his flaws, showing that he can be humbled without embarrassing himself. We appreciate his response and hope that the director does better moving forward.

As the fan pointed out, it's clear that Birds of Prey did a lot to rehabilitate Harley Quinn and make her a more intriguing character, albeit one who still isn't a good person. It's a pretty good balance, showing that she has a heart but isn't willing to abide by the law and we can't wait to see her in The Suicide Squad. Don't mean to ruffle any feathers here but it's better than what the comics are doing with her.

The Suicide Squad will be coming to theaters on August 6, 2021. Hopefully, we get a trailer for the film soon.
