TenSura author Fuse revealed that he was originally against creating the Scarlet Bond movie though it's currently setting impressive box office records for an anime film in Japan.

He revealed this surprising fact in a recent three-way interview featuring himself, Rimuru VA Miho Okasaki, and producer Shinro Sugimoto which was published by Comic Natalie.

In the interview, Fuse revealed why he was against the movie which was quite surprising given how big of a promotion an anime film is for a light novel series.

Soon, Rimuru and his companions also cross paths with Hiro, a survivor of the Ogre race.

The movie was released in Japanese cinemas on November 25, 2022. After three days, the film earned JPY 416 million (around USD 3.19 million).

TenSura Author Was Initially Against the Scarlet Bond Movie

In the Comic Natalie interview, Fuse mentioned that he was initially against the decision to produce an anime film based on his work.

But this isn’t because he wanted the anime adaptation to only remain as a TV production.

Instead, Fuse said that if a movie was made to follow up Season 2, then the story should continue in another movie.

A film bridging the gap between Seasons 2 and 3 is not ideal for him.

While he initially didn’t agree with the decision, the anime film continues but with an original story.

Unlike other anime films which are entirely unrelated to their TV anime counterparts, the TenSura movie does have a connection to the current story arc.

Though it is still a standalone story and shouldn’t affect the series’ plot too much.

While it’s only screening in Japan right now, the TenSura: Scarlet Bond movie is confirmed to release in select countries this December, with a wider cinema release planned for early 2023.
