The foulmouthed bear is not done with his R-rated shenanigans as he returns for his very own series this January 11. Now, considering that this has been a long time coming for the Seth MacFarlane franchise, how does Ted the 2024 TV show fit into his timeline?

It has been 11 years since the Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane brought the CG-animated comedy Ted to life with Universal Pictures, and still, the magic doesn't seem to fade away.

If anything, it returns viewers to the nostalgic years of seeing the bear in his full "washed up" prime.

The first Ted movie starring Mark Wahlberg as the grown-up John Bennett scored as one of the highest-grossing R-rated comedies of all time, with its success followed closely by a sequel, Ted 2.

The Ted franchise consists of two movies, both of which are connected, and this 2024, comes a seven-episode series from Peacock. That said, when does the 2024 Ted TV series fit into this timeline?

When Does the 2024 Show Ted Fit in the Timeline?

First of all, MacFarlane made it clear that the 2024 series is a prequel to the timeline from the first Ted movie, where John Bennett is all grown up.

We also know that John Bennett wished for Ted the Bear to come alive when he was eight years old, in 1985.

Since the first Ted movie said that they've been together for 27 years, and the 2024 Ted series shows John as a 16-year-old in 1993, that means the events of the latest instalment happen eight years after Ted the Bear became sentient and a full 11 years before the first Ted movie.

This also checks out with what we know from creator, actor, and producer Seth MacFarlane:

"Ted, which is taking up a lot of my time right now, is a prequel, taking place in 1993. It centers around the period pretty shortly after Ted became kind of washed up, and he's now living outside Boston with John and his family, and he's forced to kind of make his way through high school."

Meanwhile, the official synopsis for Peacock's Ted show reads:

In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it's 1993, and Ted the bear's moment of fame has passed. He's now living back home in Framingharm, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett along with John's parents, and cousin Blaire. Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he's a loyal pal who's always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.

All seven episodes of the Ted series will be available to stream on Peacock on January 11.
