The manga may be over, but the Takagi-san series continues to live on with new projects. Instead of just an upcoming series, Teasing Master Takagi-san is also getting a live-action movie, which will be released in May 2024.
This upcoming movie was announced recently via its newly launched official X (formerly Twitter) account. There, the first image for the film was shared alongside details about what to expect.
Some fans may be confused about this new project especially as a live-action series has already been announced. This is an entirely different project that will feature a different take on the Takagi-san story.
Takagi-san Is Getting Another Live-Action Project
Anime fans probably know Teasing Master Takagi-san thanks to the anime adaptation by Shin-Ei Animation (of The Dangers in My Heart and A Couple of Cuckoos fame).
The anime has gotten a big following over the years, enough that the series has been renewed for three seasons, not to mention that an anime film was released last year.
There’s no word yet on a new anime season, but Takagi-san was revealed to be getting a live-action series adaptation.
This upcoming TV drama will air in Japan on TBS, and it will be streamed worldwide on Netflix in March 2024. Based on the drama’s reveal, it will follow the two main stars during their junior high school days.
Even though the drama hasn’t aired yet, Takagi-san is already revealed to be getting yet another live-action project. This time, a live-action film is in the works.
Teasing Master Takagi-san Live-Action Movie Gets May 2024 Release
Much like the TV drama, the upcoming movie puts its own spin on Takagi’s story. Instead of following Takagi and Nishikata’s story in middle school, this movie will be set ten years after the manga.
In the movie, Takagi returns to her previous school as an intern. There, she will meet Nishikata, who is now a physical education teacher at the school. In a way, this film will be a sequel to the live-action series.
Playing Takagi in the movie is Mei Nagano (Tomoyo Shiino in the My Broken Mariko film). Alongside her is Fumiya Takahashi (Aruto Hiden in Kamen Rider Zero-One) as Nishikata.
The Teasing Master Takagi-san live-action movie will be released in Japanese cinemas on May 31, 2024.
There’s no announcement yet on a release outside of Japan. Considering Netflix will stream the TV drama, there’s a chance the movie will also be released on Netflix next year.
