The takt op. mobile game was launched just last June, and sadly, it won’t even last a year. That’s because the takt op. Symphony mobile game is confirmed to shut down this April.

Details about the game’s shutdown were shared on its official Japanese and English X (formerly Twitter) accounts. There, a letter was shared detailing why the game will end its run.

This likely also means that the once-promising takt op. franchise likely won’t get any new projects soon.

Many anime fans will likely be familiar with the takt op. franchise thanks to the anime that aired in 2021 titled takt op. Destiny. After all, this series was a collaboration between Madhouse and MAPPA.

It started as an anime, but a video game was initially set to launch in 2021. The game was then delayed to the following year. This is reminiscent of what happened to Uma Musume Pretty Derby, another mixed-media franchise.

In 2022, the game suffered another delay, though it was finally launched on June 28, 2023, with the title takt op. Symphony.

Along with the anime and the game, there are also two manga adaptations, the first being a retelling of the anime while the other is a prequel.

All entries in the franchise share the same futuristic setting where monsters called D2s attack humans who play music. This is because music is the only way to hurt them.

In response, the Symphonica International Organization is founded to defend cities from D2s.

Unlike most anime games which are released first in Japan (such as the KonoSuba visual novel), takt op. Symphony got a simultaneous release in Japan and internationally with an English version.

The game gained some interest, though it wasn’t enough to save it from being shut down. According to the official announcement, the game’s Japanese and English versions will end service on April 9, 2024.

According to the letter shared by the development team, the imminent shutdown is because “it is becoming difficult to continue to make game content that satisfies Conductors.”

While the game’s shutdown is sad news for many players, it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise for others. That’s because there are many similar cases given how competitive the mobile gaming scene is.

For now, the takt op. franchise continues with the manga adaptations, though there’s no word yet on future projects.
