It has been a long time coming for fans, but finally, the Gun Gale Online spinoff is getting a new season. What’s more, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online season 2 also got a release date window along with a special announcement video.
The show’s new season comes nearly six years after the first season. Despite the lengthy wait, many of the previous season’s cast and staff members are returning.
Are Sword Art Online and Gun Gale Online Connected?
Gun Gale Online is an anime adaptation of the Sword Art Online light novel spinoff series of the same name.
This series is set in the same world as Sword Art Online, and its story even takes into account the original incident where Kirito and 10,000 other players were trapped in the virtual world.
While this event saw a decline in the popularity of VR games, they saw a resurgence with the release of the NerveGear.
This resulted in the development of more games, including Gun Gale Online, which is the main game of this spinoff.
Even though Gun Gale Online is set in the same universe and also features an MMORPG story, there is no crossover between the two series’ cast and stories.
This means even those new to the series will be able to watch the spinoff.

Gun Gale Online Season 2 Returning Voice Cast and Staff Announced
For the new season, it was confirmed that voice actors (VAs) from the first season are returning. Here are the confirmed voice cast members so far:
- Tomori Kusunoki (Makima in Chainsaw Man) as LLENN
- Yoko Hikasa (Emi Yusa in The Devil is a Part-Timer!) as Pitohui
- Chinatsu Akasaki (Kazumi Miwa in Jujutsu Kaisen) as Fukaziroh
- Kazuyuki Okitsu (Zantetsu Tsurugi in Blue Lock) as M
Along with these VAs, director Masayuki Sakoi will also return to helm the second season. He will be joined by scriptwriter Yousuke Kuroda and character designer Yoshio Kosakai.
Which Studio Is Animating Gun Gale Online Season 2?
As many key staff members are returning, it should come as no surprise that Gun Gale Online season 2 will once again be animated by Studio 3Hz.
This studio is best known for animating shows such as The Marginal Service, Healer Girl, and The Devil is a Part Timer!!

Sword Art Online: Gun Gale Online Season 2 Release Date Window Announced
The new season’s premiere was announced at AnimeJapan 2024 with the release of a special video. While it doesn’t feature much in the way of new footage, it does highlight returning characters.
Gun Gale Online season 2 will be released in October 2024. For now, there’s no word yet on a specific release date.
