Superman: Legacy First Look Teased In Celebration of DC Hero's Anniversary

James Gunn and Peter Safran have so far been moving forward for their visualized future of the new DCU, which begins once The Flash releases, and soon, Superman: Legacy.

In lieu of celebrating Superman’s Anniversary, the filmmaker Gunn has taken to Twitter to share the first look at the final script for Superman: Legacy, under his name as not only as the director of the film, but as its scribe, as well.

“I’m honored to be a part of the legacy.” Gunn wrote, “And what better day than [Superman Anniversary Day] to dive fully into early pre-production on [Superman: Legacy]?”

“Costumes, production design, and more [are] now up and running.” Gunn concluded, all the while including a shot of the script’s first page which has the printed DCU title and his name as the writer.

Gunn has been building up to this day to share the surprise to DC fans, especially since he first began working on the script way before he had taken the position for DC Studios.

Since then, the DC Studios boss had been trying to rebuild the image of the ‘official’ Man of Steel image in the DC universe.

While the shocking exit of Henry Cavill from being the initial Man of Steel for DCU made fans question the future of the franchise altogether, Gunn has been consistent in providing updates.

It is also worth mentioning that Gunn’s revamping of the DC not only includes a younger Clark Kent starting off with his origin story, as per usual, but also in changing his approach to how the new Superman adaptation differs from its previous versions.

“I don’t think [Superman: Legacy] would be worth making if it was just a redo of any other Superman adaptation…” Gunn admitted.

“For us to truly thrive as a studio, we need to honor the past of these characters while simultaneously seeing them in a new light.”

In a different interview, Gunn had even established how making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is highly different from what Superman: Legacy hopes to send to fans.

“I learned so much from making these [Guardians] movies,” he said, “But it’s not like Superman is going to have exactly the same vibe as a Guardians movie. It’s actually quite different.”

DC’s Superman: Legacy is currently scheduled to premiere on July 11, 2025.
