The first DCU film Superman: Legacy is finally set to begin production this spring with James Gunn directing and David Corenswet taking on the cape for the new franchise's iteration of the iconic hero.
While fans are excited to see a new version of the Man of Steel on the big screen again, they've also been wondering whether the DCU's take on the hero will go back to basics with a familiar lighter tone.
The DCEU version played by Henry Cavill was criticized by some fans for being darker and gritter, which is not the usual portrayal that we've seen for the character up to that point.
Now, one of the stars of the new film has set the record straight and confirmed what some fans have speculated on the DCU's portrayal of the beloved hero.

Rachel Brosnahan Confirms the Man of Steel Will Have 'Sense of Humor' in Superman: Legacy
Speaking recently with Entertainment Tonight (via Variety), Rachel Brosnahan, who is set to play Lois Lane in Superman: Legacy, confirmed that Corenswet's version of the hero will have a "sense of humor."
"I’ve really enjoyed the collaboration with James Gunn so far. Every single person involved in this production is such a perfect nerd for Superman," she said.
"We all grew up watching the movies. Some of us were reading the comics. So I feel like it’s being made with so much love. And I think this Superman will have a sense of humor."
The actress also added, "We’re excited to both put our own spin on things and honor the material we love so much."
Considering Gunn's style as a storyteller, it's not surprising that the DCU's take on the hero will have comedic touches and some fans have already speculated it ever since it was announced that the director is shepherding the project.
It is also an assurance that we can expect a lighter tone in the new version of the Man of Steel and a lot of fans would certainly be happy to see that approach again on the big screen after the polarizing DCEU iteration.
As long as the humor is balanced properly with the dramatic elements, there should be no issue at all for the character to have a sense of humor. Knowing Gunn's work and approach in his past films, we can safely bet that it is in safe hands.
Superman: Legacy is slated for release in theaters on July 11, 2025.
