Stranger Things’ Gaten Matarazzo Wants To Play Star Wars’ Obi-Wan Kenobi

Like his character in Stranger Things, child star Gaten Matarazzo has a lot of love for the Star Wars franchise.

Now that Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy is coming to an end with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, fans are expecting the franchise to shift to other stories from everyone's favorite galaxy, far, far away. Hoping that he might be able to land a spot, Matarazzo says that he'd actually love to play Star Wars new Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Speaking in an interview with IMDb to talk about the latest season of Stranger Things, Matarazzo was asked what remake he would ever like to star in if he were given the chance to play in a Star Wars movie.

"When I'm older, I want to play Obi-Wan," the young actor revealed, "Like if it ever--they shouldn't remake any Star Wars movie, they shouldn't do any remakes, but if they ever remake the originals, nah-uh, but if they asked me to be Obi-Wan, I'm totally on board. Like, if I'm like 75, and they're like, 'You wanna do this?' I'm like, yeah, heck yeah, I'm totally doing it, even if I don't agree with them making a remake. I would totally wanna be Obi-Wan."

While it might take a bit of time for Matarazzo to get to the age where Lucasfilm might cast him as Obi-Wan, the Star Wars franchise definitely has a lot of room for the young star. The Rise of Skywalker not only marks the end of the sequel trilogy, but it also serves as a culmination of the Skywalker saga. After the film's release, Lucasfilm will focus on producing other stories with Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss leading their own trilogy and Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson leading another.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to premiere on December 20, 2019.
