Throughout the series, Stranger Things has a death toll of a lot of newly introduced characters or those minor ones but never the main cast of the show. Branded as being soft, the creators of the show defend their decision and threw a major shade on another show, "We aren't Game of Thrones. This is Hawkins, it's not Westeros."

Since the start of the show, while the main characters almost came face-to-face with death, none of them dies. Over four seasons, Stranger Things got a reputation of introducing new characters only to kill them off at the end of the season even when people are just starting to get a hang on them.

In every season, there's a death of a minor character but never a major one. The Duffer Brothers, in an interview on the Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast, defended their decision of not killing off any of the main characters, "Believe us, we've explored all options in the writing room. Just as a complete hypothetical, if you kill Mike, that's depressing."

Matt Duffer added, "We aren't Game of Thrones. This is Hawkins, it's not Westeros. The show becomes not Stranger Things anymore because you do have to treat it realistically, right?"

Now, that is a major shade! Game of Thrones is known for killing off main characters of the show in ways unimaginable and the creators of Stranger Things don't want to go through that path. Instead, they introduce new characters then kill them off because there's no fun if there's no death.

There's Barb in the first season, Bob in the second, Billy in the third, and Eddie in the fouth. Even if these characters managed to get through the audience and become fan-favorites, they are killed off in the same season they were introduced, well, except Billy who lasted for two runs.

That being said, with Stranger Things Season 5 on the line of being the last installment of the series, whether the Duffer Brothers could live up to this perspective remains a question especially with the finale of all finales.

Stranger Things Season 4 Volumes 1 and 2 are now streaming on Netflix.
