Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Project Remains in Development at Lucasfilm

Rogue Squadron was one of the Star Wars projects that were in the works at Lucasfilm, but a recent report claimed that it has been canceled indefinitely and director Patty Jenkins no longer has her hands on the franchise. The project was supposed to be the next movie as announced back in late 2020 although the development didn't move forward.

However, it looks like the project might still have a lifeline as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed in a recent interview with IGN that Rogue Squadron is not dead and they are still developing it. However, she hinted at the possibility that it might become a Disney+ series instead.

"Rogue Squadron, that definitely is something that we still talk about. Whether it's a movie or whether it ends up being in the series space, that's definitely something," she said.

This is a huge contrast from the updates that we've been hearing regarding the project in the past couple of months as Kennedy herself confirmed that it is still part of their development pipeline and any reports regarding its fate are not true after all if we take her word for it.

It is also clear that Lucasfilm is currently focusing on the three feature films project that is active in the works that they announced recently at the Star Wars Celebration event which are the Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy project set after The Rise of Skywalker, the James Mangold Jedi origins project, and the Dave Filoni Mandalorian movie project.

This is good news for fans who might still have hopes that Rogue Squadron will come to life, especially since there's a lot of potential with the project and it is an interesting idea to explore in the Star Wars universe. However, it remains unknown whether Jenkins will still be involved in the project if ever it moves forward.
