The Star Wars franchise's triumphant return to the big screen is finally happening and it's pretty fitting that Lucasfilm will pick up where the sequel trilogy left off.

In case you've been living in exile in Dagobah for the last few weeks, it was officially confirmed during Star Wars Celebration in London that Daisy Ridley will make her jaw-dropping comeback to a galaxy far, far away to lead her own film.

In the latest issue of Empire Magazine (via The Direct), Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Luke Skywalker would continue to be an influential character in Rey's next big journey.

In fact, the new Jedi Order she will establish will rely heavily on the teachings she got from the famed Jedi Master.

Kennedy shared: "We’re going very far back, we’re looking at the present, and now we’re moving 15 years after 'The Rise Of Skywalker.' The First Order has fallen, the Jedi are in chaos – there’s even a question of how many exist anymore – and Rey’s building the New Jedi Order, based on the text that she was given and that Luke imparted on her."

Now, does this mean we'll be getting ourselves another cameo appearance from Mark Hamill as Luke in his Force Ghost form? As it stands, nothing has been officially set in stone but the idea itself seems pretty plausible.

The official release date for the next Star Wars film is still being kept under wraps.
