Star Wars Loses At MTV Awards; Kardashians Compared To The Galactic Franchise

It might sound a bit farfetched comparing the Kardashian family to the Star Wars franchise, but the comedian Tiffany Haddish did just that at this year's MTV Movie and TV Awards.

According to IOL, Haddish, the host of this year's ceremony, kicked off the MTV Movie and TV Awards night by trying to take a jab at the Kardashian family.

"That family is basically the Star Wars franchise," the 38-old-comedian joked. "They make a ton of money, a new one's always popping up, and they're ruled by a bossy overlord who sleeps in a mask and she love black men."

The Kardashian's took the joke in good spirit, with audience members Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian west laughing at Haddish's little quip.

Star Wars fans on the other hand, probably wouldn't be too happy with the comparison. Though the two might be popular in their own worlds, it's pretty difficult putting Kardashians and Star Wars in the same sentence. How do you exactly does a family of celebrities compare to an iconic science fiction franchise that's lasted for decades?

However, despite its critical acclaim and its popularity, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Avengers: Infinity War both left empty handed during the MTV Movie and TV Awards. Though both films were nominated three times during the ceremony, both won nothing. Instead, Black Panther dominated the show, taking home Best Movie, Best Hero, and Best Villain award at the ceremony.

Such a shame considering both The Last Jedi and Infinity War were both great films. Sure The Last Jedi might have been a divisive Star Wars installment, but critics had nothing but great things to say about The Force Awakens sequel.

Lucasfilm's latest project, Solo: A Star Wars Story, is currently screening in cinemas.
