Carrie Fisher’s Brother Wants To See Leia Playing A Part In Star Wars: Episode IX

There was a lot of concern when Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher passed away back in December 2016. Not only did the Star Wars princess' unexpected passing break the hearts of her family, friends, and fans all around the globe it also brought a lot of production issues for Lucasfilm.

While Fisher had been able to complete her scenes for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the actress passed away before she could finish filming her scenes for Star Wars: Episode IX. Surprisingly enough, though many believed that Fisher's passing meant that Lucasfilm would write Leia off in The Last Jedi, General Organa made it out of the film alive.

Now, speaking in an interview with Variety, Fisher's brother, Todd, says that he hopes that his sister might play a role in the final film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

"Yoda came back in the last movie, so why not Carrie?" Todd told the publication. "In the first film, Obi-Wan says that if he dies, he'll come back stronger than ever. I feel like that's Carrie. She'll never disappear entirely."

Lucasfilm has a reputation for being careful about its spoilers, and so the studio's kept its plans for Leia a secret even from Fisher's family. However, Leia's arc could really go two ways – either Leia gets written off from the film or Lucasfilm does its best to finish Leia's story with the footage they have of her for Episode IX.

Either way, we're hoping that Lucasfilm makes a proper tribute to our princess.

Lucasfilm's latest project, Solo: A Star Wars Story, is currently screening in cinemas. Star Wars: Episode IX makes its big premiere on December 20, 2019.
