Star Wars Legend Debunks Fan Debates on Importance of Franchise Canon

Ask any fandom you’ve ever been to and you will get the same exact response: “Canon is everything.” However, Star Wars creative legend Dave Filoni doesn’t entirely agree with that stance.

“People get into all these debates of what’s canon and what’s not, and sometimes forget the special nature of telling a good story and creating great characters.” Filoni said in a recent interview with ScreenRant.

“Part of the fan debate in the past always used to be, ‘What’s canon? What’s not?’ because there was George, and we always knew George was the canon,” Filoni added, “I look at it very broadly, and I just say there’s a love of Star Wars.”

“Because I knew George, I worked with him, and none of us are going to be him. But we love the Galaxy he created, and we’re very much a product of it; growing up with it.”

There is no denying that everything could easily evolve from its initial introduction. Not everything can stay in place.

While the success of the Sequel Trilogy films paled in comparison to its originals, Daisy Ridley will be returning to the franchise alongside Adam Driver to make Episode X.

The Mandalorian universe continues to expand after Season 3, as Lucasfilm is set to debut Ahsoka Tano starring in her own series bearing the same title, and not to forget, The Acolyte.

Even Andor Season 2 is on the way, already in production. Andor, after all, is one of the modern Star Wars series that enriched the Star Wars universe all the while delivering a great show for fans to enjoy and explore.

In the case of Filoni, who served in production, direction, and consulting crew for The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, as well as upcoming new series Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew, the new Star Wars generation may not be as great as its original days, but it serves its purpose, which is extending its canon universe.
