The Star Wars universe's film slate may have undergone a series of unfortunate setbacks over the last couple of years but Lucasfilm remains unfazed and is quite determined to bring the Force back to the big screen.

One of the films confirmed to be in development is Shawn Levy's mystery project which was announced late last year. The director is still working on a couple of projects, including Stranger Things Season 5 and Deadpool 3, and the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes have undoubtedly put his Star Wars debut on pause, at least for now.

Now, Levy is offering new details about his film which is rumored to see a potential comeback from a beloved character.

In a recent interview with Variety, Levy gave a promising update on his Star Wars debut, revealing that he plans to start working on it once he finishes Deadpool 3.

Talking about the inner workings of the project and what led to him finally helming a Star Wars project, Levy shared: "When Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a Star Wars movie, her central mandate to me was 'I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies — with a Star Wars story.'"

He added: "So I have felt extremely empowered. We are in early days, unfortunately, because the development process was abruptly paused [due to the WGA strike], but I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie."

When asked about the persistent rumors surrounding Adam Driver's involvement, Levy quickly dodged the question, saying: "As you know Adam is a buddy, and I’ve always been a huge fan of Kylo Ren. But no comment."

Killing off Kylo Ren is easily one of the most questionable creative decisions The Rise of Skywalker made but that's not to say that he can't come back, either by resurrection or becoming a Force Ghost himself, especially considering Episode IX's closing moments saw his redemption arc fully realized.

Shawn Levy's Star Wars film is currently in development.
