Star Wars Icon Carrie Fisher’s Death Spurs Disney to Make $50 Million Insurance Claim

Many hearts were broken when Carrie Fisher passed away last week. The spunky actress, writer and mental health activist had been best known for her iconic role as Star Wars' fiery princess, Leia, and many fans continue to tear up over her death.

Disney is also in a shamble – though her untimely passing had come after she had finished her parts for Star Wars: Episode 8, there's still no knowing what will happen to Star Wars: Episode 9. The studio is now reportedly set to make one of the largest claims for personal accident insurance for Fisher's death, an amount going up by the millions.

According to a report by Movie Web, Disney is allegedly going to receive $50 million in an insurance payout for the death of Fisher before the end of their three-year contract. Lloyds of London will make the payout for the contract protection insurance cover underwritten by the Exceptional Risk Advisers, a firm based in the US. Fisher is expected to take on a much larger role for Star Wars: Episode 8 and the mill has begun to spread word that General Organa's role would grow even further in Star Wars: Episode 9.

What will happen to Star Wars: Episode 9 now that Fisher is gone? Will Disney use the $50 million payout for a CGI animation of General Organa? Rumor has it that the studio is reworking the entire script of Episode 9, so hopefully it won't come to that point at all.

Star Wars: Episode 8 is slated for release on the big screen on Dec. 15 this year while Star Wars: Episode 9 is being set for a tentative cinematic release on May 23, 2019.
