Star Wars Icon Carrie Fisher To Be Honored With A Walk of Fame Star

The Star Wars Celebration held earlier this month brought excitement to fans with the promise of upcoming movies and Disney+ shows from the franchise. Now, with Star Wars Day just around the corner, some recent news has arrived to make the fans of the late icon Carrie Fisher happy.

Fisher will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Star Wars Day, May 4th, 2023. She will get the 2,754th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the motion picture category.

Ana Martinez, the producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said, “I am happy to add that her star is just a few feet away from the star of Mark Hamill and across the street from the star of her legendary mother Debbie Reynolds.”

The Princess Leia actress joins her Star Wars co-stars Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford in receiving the stars. Hamill took to Twitter to celebrate the recognition of his co-star and longtime friend.

The actor’s tweet gathered reactions, with some citing that they were surprised to learn that the actress didn’t have the star in the first place, given her contribution to the cinematic world. While others have agreed that even though it’s long overdue, they are happy that it’s finally here.

Fisher’s impact on the franchise lingers to this day, especially now that the franchise is heading to a female-led future. Female actors who are continuing Fisher’s legacy have also acknowledged the pressure the actress has to endure just to lift female representation in Star Wars.

Fisher died in December 2016 at the age of 60, just after filming The Last Jedi. While she was unable to complete her character's journey, which spanned four decades, she did appear in The Rise of Skywalker because of previously unused footage.

The Star Wars legend was also made a Disney Legend in 2017, as well as being awarded a Grammy in 2018. The Hollywood Walk of Fame star is just another award she should have gotten while she was still alive.
