Fan-favorite original trilogy character C-3PO made his surprise return for a special cameo appearance at the beginning of the seventh episode of Ahsoka with Anthony Daniels reprising the role.

The droid came to the scene as Hera Syndulla was being grilled by Hamato Xiono about her unsanctioned mission in Seatos and played down her concerns surrounding the potential return of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

As Xiono was recommending for Hera to be court-martialed, C-3PO joined the proceedings just in time as Leia Organa's representative to provide the data that showed that she sanctioned the mission and explained that she "accidentally didn’t know" that Xioni was against it.

Thanks to the droid's arrival and the evidence that he provided courtesy of Leia, Hera was cleared in the investigation and was able to continue her side mission as her friends were stuck in another galaxy.

Following the airing of the seventh episode, C-3PO's cameo became one of the highlights that Ahsoka fans discussed on X and celebrated his surprise return to the series as his appearance gave a strong nostalgic feel since he is obviously a remnant of the original trilogy.

Here are some of the posts from fans on X regarding the droid's surprise cameo in the recent episode:

Several fans felt that C-3PO's cameo was also a tribute to Carrie Fisher. Since doing a CGI resurrection of the younger version of the late actress might not have been an option, they found a way to still include her character by namedropping and having her droid appear to represent her instead.

His cameo appearance in this episode marked another impressive record for Daniels since it continued his streak of appearances in the franchise.

Aside from appearing in all theatrical films (counting his cameo as a different character in Solo), he also voiced C-3PO in animated shows and made a brief appearance last year in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Fans are now curious to see whether the droid will appear again in the season finale which will delight them again if it does happen. Nevertheless, seeing him for a brief moment in the new episode was already a great reward for long-time fans of the franchise.

New episodes of Ahsoka premiere every Tuesday night on Disney+.
