Star Wars: Episode IX’s Richard E. Grant Says Lucasfilm Doesn’t Give Actors Their Scripts

Security on Star Wars productions might be usually tight, but it looks like the measures that Lucasfilm's taking to avoid spoilers on the production of Star Wars: Episode IX is insane. Star Wars actors wouldn't even be able to give away leaks even if they wanted to.

Speaking on The One Show (via Digital Spy), Episode IX newcomer Richard E. Grant confirms the extraordinary lengths that Lucasfilm has been taking to keep the film's secrets from leaking out online, revealing just how much work goes into the movie's security. Not only does the studio prevent its actors from taking the script home, but it also makes sure that Episode IX's stars are covered in cloaks to keep them away from drones trying to get pictures of actors in various scenes that they're in.

"It's extraordinary," he explained. "They don't give you a script, you have to go to a room where there are bodyguards outside, closed-circuit television cameras, and it's printed on crimson pages so you can't photograph it. You have to read it in there, and then leave."

When asked by the show's host Alex Jones how exactly does Episode IX remember its lines, it turns out that Grant and his co-stars are given the pages that they need on the day that they work and that they have to sign for them and sign out for them after shooting.

"There are security guards on set," Grant added.

According to the actor, Lucasfilm also does its best to hide its stars from sneaky drones.

"They give you a cloak, over your head – because apparently, they have drones going over Pinewood Studios so they try and take photographs of what people are playing," Grant shared.

While this method may not have stopped drones from taking shots of John Boyega doing scenes in a grassy hillside back in 2018, it has kept further shots from making their way online. Security on Episode IX has certainly been intense.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set to premiere on December 20, 2019.
