Star Wars Episode IX: Scenes with Leia Influenced Rey's New Hairstyle?

We don't have any official promos for Star Wars Episode IX yet, but we do have that one image that J.J. Abrams posted to announce the wrap of production. In the photo, we see that Rey has a different hairstyle, and it's said that the choice for it was likely because of her reused scenes with Leia.

According to Now This is Podcasting (via Reddit), they decided to go with the certain hairstyle for Rey because they're going to be reusing footage of her talking to Leia—most likely in a scene before she flies off to find Luke.

We don't know in what way they can repurpose the footage for something else, but I hope it's just not something blatantly obvious. If Abrams and his team were confident enough to put it in though, I think it will all turn out fine.

Personally, I would have been fine if the movie just started off without Leia. Maybe they could have even started with a funeral being held for her. After Lucasfilm dug themselves in a hole by saying they won't try to recreate Leia with CGI, they're going to have to do one hell of a rewrite to make sure all that all footage is relevant. I think they're also going to try and digitally enhance the costumes so they don't look the same.

Leia repeating an outfit/hairstyle? It hasn't been done before.

Of course, we should still take this is a rumor for now, but it's very likely. There can only be so much extra footage of Carrie Fisher from the past two films. I'd be amazed if the movie could make it work.

Star Wars Episode IX comes out Dec. 20.
