Star Wars’ Controversial New Trilogies By GOT Showrunners And Rian Johnson Might Do Some Good

Star Wars fans might have been looking forward to the upcoming Star Wars trilogy by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, but now that the fantasy epic's eighth and final season has come to completion, fans aren't quite sure.

Game of Thrones might be one of the biggest shows on television today, but there have been multiple complaints about the eighth season of the series with many criticizing Benioff and Weiss for rushing the pace and for making unearned storytelling decisions.

Now, Benioff and Weiss' new Star Wars trilogy is also surrounded in controversy, making it almost as controversial as the upcoming trilogy by Star Wars: The Last Jedi director, Rian Johnson.

While this might concern some, Screen Rant believes that this might actually be good for the franchise. Right now, we don't really know much about what the Game of Thrones showrunners and Johnson have planned for their separate trilogies. The controversy surrounding their upcoming Star Wars films have all been caused by their previous projects.

For Benioff and Weiss, it was because of the last two seasons of Game of Thrones. For Johnson, it was The Last Jedi, a divisive film which upset some fans because of how it subverted fan expectations (much like Game of Thrones last two seasons) and because of how it allegedly misused legacy characters.

This controversy can be fuelled to help advertise the upcoming trilogies. Some even believe that controversy is a good thing for Star Wars because it helps keep everything interesting. We definitely can't wait and hear what D&D and Johnson have in store for us though.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
