The Squid Game fever is not going away anytime soon. As per director Hwang Dong-Hyuk, the storyline is parallel to that of the real world, where the powerful and the rich are always ganging up on the poor and the helpless.

In a recent interview, Squid Game director Hwang Dong-Hyuk explained that the VIPs, which were the focal points later in the series, represent the real world of the powerful elites. He further compared one of the VIPs who kind of resembled former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Donald Trump Resembling One Of The VIPs In Squid Game A Coincidence?

Hwang Dong-Hyuk shared, during the interview, that the creation of Squid Game took him over 10 years. The director said he started writing about the show back in 2008 when the world was evolving and took societal problems into his writing.

In the early stages of writing Squid Game, Dong-Hyuk remembered a huge issue regarding the Lehman Brothers that sent South Korea into a financial spiral. Interestingly, he was also struggling financially at that time.

Dong-Hyuk explained that the world has since changed. The innovation and the evolution of technology pushed him to really try and get Squid Game out there.

Then, at the height of him pushing for Squid Game to be picked up, Donald Trump became the President of the United States, and for Dong-Hyuk, it was surreal. He said:

"And then Donald Trump became the president of the United States and I think he kind of resembles one of the VIPs in the Squid Game. It's almost like he's running a game show, not a country, like giving people horror. After all these issues happened, I thought it was about time that this show goes out into the world."

Squid Game takes a very gory step in showing the unfairness of the world. Whether it is a social commentary or not, what drew people in is the uniqueness of Squid Game's plot.
