Spy x Family Chapter 90.1 features the 11th short mission of the series, which is set around the time Anya first enrolled at Eden Academy.

Anya was in the middle of watching a cartoon when she asked Loid about getting the same doorplate the character Lucas has on TV. As the good father that he is, Loid agreed to Anya’s demands, as did his pretend wife, Yor.

The next panel shows Anya carving the letters of her name into the doorplate, but she seems to not be getting it right.

Funny enough, Yor even has to ask Anya to do it on her behalf since she’s exceptionally good with blades.

When the doorplate was finished, the letters of Anya’s name were spelled A-N-I-A (Ania).

Later on, we see Loid asking about Anya’s doorplate and how she might have misspelled her name. He believes that Anya’s name is spelled A-N-Y-A and not A-N-I-A after all.

Then, Anya contemplates Loid’s question before agreeing with his father. We then see Anya’s doorplate changed into A-N-Y-A while she lies on the bed, thinking about the spelling of her name.

This extra mission produced some interesting reactions and comments from fans who think that the spelling of Anya’s name might be A-N-I-A (Ania) all this time in Spy x Family.

Anya or Ania: Fans React to Anya’s Misspelled Name in Spy x Family

There have been a lot of discussions surrounding the spelling of Anya’s name.

It is said that Anya’s original romanization was Ania, as Tatsuya Endo intended, but the English localization team adjusted it to Anya to complement the show’s setting.

Perhaps Tatsuya Endo likes how Anya’s name is written, so he decided to go for it instead of Ania for the most part of Spy x Family.

Fans have also seen some websites that refer to Anya as Anja, most likely because of the German setting of Spy x Family.

Some argue that Anya, Anja, and Ania are just different spellings of the same name depending on location, but these were not confirmed.

With the recent chapter release, Anya misspelling her name Ania might have a possible in-universe origin connecting Ania to Ostania.

If this is true, Anya’s name might have a deeper story that future chapters of Spy x Family may confirm at some point.

One of the most talked-about theories about Anya’s name is its connection with Ostania. The theory suggests that the scientists who once experimented on the young Forger gave her the name Anya, not her biological mother.

And that Anya subconsciously chose the spelling A-N-I-A (Ania) due to the word Ostania written on so many things that surrounded her at the time.

Perhaps Anya absorbed the spelling of Ania due to the influence of the scientists and, most notably, her environment.

If this theory is true, it’s possible that Anya has a different biological name, which we still don’t know to this day.
