Earlier this year, it was reported that Sony and Amazon are developing a Spider-Man Noir TV series that is set to be part of their live-action Spider-Verse franchise. It is the second Spider-Man character to get its own spinoff following Silk, whose series is also in development at the moment.

Since then, we haven't heard any significant updates about the project and it doesn't help that the writers' strike months ago temporarily halted any progress on its development.

Now, we finally have a new exciting update on the project as they have tapped another key creative figure who will work on the series.

Variety has reported that Amazon and Sony are officially moving forward with the Spider-Man Noir TV series as they tapped Steve Lightfoot to serve as the co-showrunner alongside Oren Uziel.

The series will follow the titular hero's adventure in 1930s New York City. It is going to be set in its own universe and the main character is not expected to be Peter Parker.

This won't be Lightfoot's first foray into the Marvel world since he previously served as the showrunner of Netflix's The Punisher which ran for two seasons. He also worked on other shows such as Hannibal and Narcos.

Given how the character became more well-known thanks to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, there is now some excitement and interest in the project and there's a lot of creative opportunity in bringing him to the live-action space.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who co-wrote and produced the animated Miles Morales Spider-Verse films, are also involved in the project as executive producers so they will also have some input on how they'll shape the story.

The question now is who they'll cast to play the character whether they'll try to have Nicolas Cage reprise the role in live-action or they'll cast another older actor instead.

We might be hearing more news and updates about the project in the coming months as the project is now officially moving forward.
