Spider-Man is Getting a LEGO Animated Special

DC had made bank with their LEGO Batman movie, and now Marvel wants in on the animated LEGO movie market. The last day of the NYCC had Marvel announcing the upcoming LEGO Spider-Man special, and it will feature everyone's favorite anti-hero, Venom.

Marvel announced (via ScreenRant) LEGO Marvel Spider-Man: Vexed by Venom. Here's the description:

"In the special, tech theft is now at an all-time high thanks to Green Goblin & Venom-- can our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man put an end to their mysterious villainous scheme before all of New York City is destroyed?"

As for the cast, you have Robbie Daymond (Peter Parker/Spider-man), Ben Pronsky (Venom), Josh Keaton (Green Goblin), Tara Strong (MJ), and Laura Bailey (Gwen Stacy).

This isn't the first LEGO/Marvel collaboration either. Over time we've gotten specials in the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes series like Avengers Reassembled, Maximum Overload, Guardians of the Galaxy – The Thanos Threat, and Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda. Vexed by Venom, however, looks to be the first short in the LEGO Marvel Spider-Man series.

Compared to WB LEGO films, these Marvel LEGO specials have a more modest number of audiences. Besides no theatrical release, the quality in animation sees a huge drop compared to WB LEGO films. They still make for good fun, though, and I'm sure that a lot of kids soak up the trademark LEGO humor that's been incorporated with all their TV material.

No release date has been announced for LEGO Marvel Spider-Man: Vexed by Venom, but I'm guessing it would release sometime within the year.
