Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Toys Give Us Good Look at Scorpion and the Sp//dr Mech

Though Venom ended up a critical bomb, a lot of people have their hopes up for Sony's animated Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse. The film is set to come out this December, and some new toys give us a great look at characters. Check out Peni Parker and her Sp//dr mech as well as the villain Scorpion.

Probably the most drastic revamp of the character is Scorpion. Though the comics have him as a guy in a suit with a scorpion tail on it, here he's actually some unholy fusion of machine and man. Now the Scorpion comes with a full set of mechanical legs as well as a claw and tail.

As for Peni Parker, it's her bite from the radioactive spider that allows her to pilot the Sp//dr mech. It's the more out-of-this-world takes of the Spider-Man origin in the Spider-Verse, but I love how they've brought her into the movie. I also think it's amazing that her animation is anime-inspired, just like with every iteration of Spider-Man in the movie having their own distinct animation style.

Though I'm adamant in my opinion that Venom was a step back for the superhero genre, I think Sony has something impressive planned for Into the Spider-Verse. The world looks absolutely beautiful, and the concept of a multiverse has rarely been explored in the big screen (at least for comic book films anyway).

Miles Morales comes across the long-dead Peter Parker. This Peter Parker is not from his world though; he's from somewhere else in the multiverse. With Parker's guidance, Miles will become Spider-Man: and through that, he will become part of the ever-expanding 'Spider-Verse'.

Catch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in theaters Dec. 14.
