Emoji Movie Easter Egg Spotted in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Sony Pictures is finding any way they can to expand on their Spider-Man IP, and besides the cinematic universe being set up by Venom, we also have an animated movie incoming in the form of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. As it turns out, there's actually a small nod to another Sony movie within the film—The EmojiMovie.

This was pointed out by DiscussingFilm's James Conoway:

The cool concept of the world of Miles Morales is that it looks a lot like ‘our' world, but it subtle in several ways. Maybe in this alternate reality, The Emoji Movie actually turns out to be a critical success. Far as I know, the movie spectacularly bombed with its release last year—in this reality, anyway.

Despite terrible critical reception, Venom has managed to overperform in the box office and no doubt Sony is confident with moving forward with the SUMC. Admittedly I thought the movie was a step-back for the superhero genre, but this animated Spider-Verse film definitely looks more interesting. With all the Spider-Men we've had onscreen, I never thought that of getting a movie that actually deals with a whole multiverse.

Miles Morales comes across the long-dead Peter Parker. This Peter Parker is not from his world though; he's from somewhere else in the multiverse. With Parker's guidance, Miles will become Spider-Man: and through that he will become part of the ever-expanding 'Spider-Verse'.

Catch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in theaters Dec. 14.
