Following the massive success of No Way Home back in 2021, Marvel Studios and Sony are working together again on developing Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland slated to return as the beloved web-slinger.

So far, most of the details regarding the hero's next adventure in the MCU remain scarce, but the ending of No Way Home suggested that the fourth movie will likely go back to basics with a street-level scope.

Fans have been waiting for more news and updates on the development of the fourth movie and they are hoping that a major announcement will finally be made this year.

However, it looks like a creative difference is potentially brewing behind the scenes according to a new report.

Insider Daniel Richtman (via ComicBookMovie.com) claimed that Marvel Studios and Sony are at odds over the storyline ideas for Spider-Man 4.

Sony wants to replicate the success of No Way Home by doing another multiversal adventure with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield back to play their respective versions of the web-slinger.

However, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is eager for the fourth movie to be more grounded similar to the earlier films.

In addition, they also reported that Kingpin is set to appear in the movie, but no deal has been made yet for Vincent D'Onofrio to reprise the role.

So far, neither Marvel Studios nor Sony have commented on the report.

If Richtman's scoop is true, it is concerning news since it looks like the studios have not settled on an idea yet for Holland's next movie as the web-slinger and, hopefully, it won't lead to another fractured relationship just like in 2019 when they temporarily parted ways.

Some fans have advocated for the next movie to be more grounded and street-level since the Holland-led films always have bigger scales and were heavily connected to the other MCU films or, in the case of No Way Home, the other iterations of Spider-Man on the big screen.

As we've pointed out, the ending of No Way Home also heavily suggested that the next movie will likely be more street-level and it would be a betrayal to the audience if they wouldn't explore that.

Hopefully, later this year, we will finally hear an official update on Marvel Studios and Sony's plan for Spider-Man 4, and the idea will be worthwhile for many fans.
