Solo: A Star Wars Story Tracking Towards A $160 Million Opening

It looks like Solo: A Star Wars Story is tracking for a $160 million to a $170 million opening when it premieres later this month.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, analysts predict that Lucasfilm's newest Star Wars spinoff could very well make its way past a $160 million opening during its four-day holiday weekend this month, beating out Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and its $139.8 million opening.

Though that might not seem like much in comparison to the opening hauls of Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy entries like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars The Last Jedi, the box office estimate for Solo put it around the same ballpark as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

That's a pretty good number considering the anxiety that's been surrounding Solo. Lucasfilm caused quite a stir last year when it fired original Solo directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller over "creative differences." The studio wasn't too pleased with the way Lord and Miller were handling the production, and after separating ways Lucasfilm brought in A Beautiful Mind director Ron Howard to replace the duo.

Thankfully it seems like trailers and other various marketing material for Solo has assuaged Star Wars fan's concerns over the upcoming spinoff. Let's hope the film does good when it premieres on May 25, 2018.
